Welcome, Roj Amedi
Today marks the beginning of a new era, as we announce the new Chair of HRAFF.
Roj Amedi has a decade worth of experience in advocacy, media and strategy. Her life's work is racial and economic justice which she aspires towards as a community organiser, building solidarity between intersecting communities.
Roj is the current head of Communications and Engagement at Justice Connect, a legal services organisation and charity that designs and delivers high impact interventions to increase access to legal support and progress social justice. She leads the organisations public advocacy efforts combatting homelessness and elder abuse, while developing innovative digital outreach projects and supporting the for-purpose sector.
Previously she was the Senior Racial Justice campaigner at GetUp and Colour Code where she worked with refugee and migrant communities across the country, building their capacity to advocate for a non-discriminatory migration system, combat the rise of white supremacist groups and stamp out structural racism and discrimination and improve representation across public life.
Roj has been the editor of Acclaim Magazine and Neue Luxury, and is a regular public commentator in radio and print.
With Roj at the helm, HRAFF will usher in a fresh approach.
The next few years will be unchartered territory for the arts and film community, I'm interested in challenging our conceptions of what's possible. In an era where culture can shift so quickly, how can we make sure society at large doesn't retaliate by reaching for what's conventional or comfortable. Everyone in the HRAFF community has an integral part in helping shift our patterns and progress our collective imagination. I'm excited about what we can achieve together.
Tonight, Roj will officially open HRAFF 2021: Shifting Patterns. There are still some tickets left - book your seat to be the first to hear from Roj on her vision for the future of HRAFF.
To new beginnings!
