Key Three: Directors of Ophir and Jubilee Australia
HRAFF exists to create an ecosystem of individuals and organisations who champion creativity and human rights. As part of this mission, we are proud to partner with various community organisations who are already leading the way in this regard, to offer three practical steps that our audience can take to join the movement for social change.
Decolonisation and accountability go hand and hand, and we all play a part in holding those in power responsible for their actions. The directors of Ophir in collaboration with our Community Partner, Jubilee Australia, present three key actions you can take to support the fight for corporate and Government accountability.
The Jubilee Australia Research Centre engages in research and advocacy to promote economic justice for communities in the Asia-Pacific region and accountability for Australian corporations and government agencies operating there.
Action # 1: Decolonise the curriculum
Explore and share the educational multimedia platform The Colonial Syndrome, an extension of the film Ophir. The platform is freely accessible and contains 30+ short films and unique archival documents. Spread the word with friends/educational institutions/teachers, share on social media, blog about it, and/or get in touch with the project director Kristian Lasslett kak.lasslett@ulster.ac.uk
Action # 2: Support a youth rehabilitation project on Bougainville
Support a pilot project by Dr. Ruth Saovanna that aims to build services for youth impacted directly and indirectly by conflict-generated trauma. They are looking for expert, institutional and financial support. Email the team at info@ophir-film.com
Action # 3: Donate to these Australian organisations.
The Human Rights Law Centre recently filed a complaint against Rio Tinto to the Australian National Contact Point.
Support Jubilee Australia Research Centre's work on corporate accountability, indigenous rights and environmental harm in PNG & Bougainville.
